كلمات الربط، وتسمى أيضًا « linking words» أو « connectors »، تُستخدم لربط الأفكار وجعل النص أو الخطاب أكثر سلاسة. في هذه الدورة، سنراجع الأنواع الرئيسية لـ كلمات الربط، المصنفة حسب الفئة.
1. كلمات الربط لإضافة أو تعداد الأفكار
تسمح هذه الكلمات بإدخال معلومة جديدة، أو استكمال فكرة، أو تنظيم النقاط بترتيب منطقي (زمني أو حسب الأهمية).

الفروق / الاستثناءات
- « And » هي أبسط كلمات الربط، وتربط ببساطة عنصرين أو فكرتين.
- « Beside(s) » يمكن أن تعني « بجانب » كـ حرف جر (مثال: "The phone is beside the lamp.")، أما كـ كلمة ربط، فإن « besides » تعني « إضافة إلى ذلك / بالمناسبة ».
- الصيغ first/firstly، second/secondly، إلخ، يمكن التبديل بينها، لكن الشكل مع « -ly » يُعتبر أحيانًا أكثر رسمية.
2. كلمات الربط للتعبير عن السبب والنتيجة
هذه الكلمات تدل على لماذا حدث شيء ما (السبب) وما هو النتيجة (النتيجة).

الفروق / الاستثناءات
- « So » شائعة جدًا في اللغة المحكية.
- « Therefore », « thus », « consequently » و « hence » غالبًا ما تُستخدم في السياقات الرسمية أو المكتوبة.
- « Due to » و « owing to » تُستخدمان قبل اسم أو Gerund.
- The cancellation of the event was due to bad weather.
- Owing to arriving late, he missed the beginning of the movie.
3. كلمات الربط للتعبير عن الشرط

الفروق / الاستثناءات
- « Unless » تعني « إلا إذا / ما لم »، لذا الجملة تعبر عن نفي ضمني.
- « I won't go unless... » = « لن أذهب إلا إذا... »
- « Provided (that) » و « providing (that) » غالبًا يمكن التبديل بينهما، لكن « provided that » أكثر شيوعًا في السياقات الرسمية.

- « Despite » و « in spite of » يتبعها اسم أو Gerund.

5. كلمات الربط للتعبير عن الهدف

- « To » هي الصيغة الأبسط للتعبير عن الهدف، وغالبًا يتبعها فعل في صيغة Infinitive.
- « So that » و « in order that » غالبًا تقدمان جملة تحتوي على فاعل وفعل.

- « Such as » و « like » غالبًا يتبعهما أمثلة ملموسة.
- « e.g. » اختصار لاتيني، يُستخدم غالبًا في سياقات رسمية أو أكاديمية، وكثيرًا ما يأتي بين أقواس.
- « For example » و « for instance » يمكن استخدامهما بالتبادل لتقديم مثال.
7. كلمات الربط للتلخيص أو الخاتمة

- « In conclusion » و « to conclude » أكثر رسمية.
- « All in all » و « in short » أكثر غير رسمية وغالبًا ما تُستخدم في الحديث الشفوي.
