Οι συνδετικοί λόγοι, γνωστοί επίσης ως «linking words» ή «connectors», χρησιμοποιούνται για να συνδέουν ιδέες και να κάνουν ένα κείμενο ή έναν λόγο πιο ομαλό. Σε αυτό το μάθημα, θα αναθεωρήσουμε τους βασικούς τύπους συνδετικών λόγων, οργανωμένους κατά κατηγορία.
1. Συνδετικοί λόγοι για προσθήκη ή απαρίθμηση ιδεών

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Το «And» είναι το πιο βασικό από τους συνδετικούς λόγους. Συνδέει απλά δύο στοιχεία ή ιδέες.
- Το «Beside(s)» μπορεί να σημαίνει «δίπλα σε» ως Präposition (π.χ. "The phone is beside the lamp."), αλλά ως connector, το «besides» σημαίνει «επιπλέον / άλλωστε».
- Οι μορφές first/firstly, second/secondly κ.λπ. είναι εναλλάξιμες, αλλά η μορφή με «-ly» θεωρείται μερικές φορές πιο επίσημη.
2. Συνδετικοί λόγοι για έκφραση αιτίας και αποτελέσματος
Δείχνουν γιατί συμβαίνει κάτι (αιτία) και ποιο είναι το αποτέλεσμα (συνέπεια).

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Το «So» είναι πολύ συχνό στην καθημερινή ομιλία.
- Τα «Therefore», «thus», «consequently» και «hence» χρησιμοποιούνται κυρίως σε πιο επίσημο ή γραπτό λόγο.
- Τα «Due to» και «owing to» χρησιμοποιούνται πριν από ένα Nomen ή ένα Gerund.
- The cancellation of the event was due to bad weather.
- Owing to arriving late, he missed the beginning of the movie.
3. Συνδετικοί λόγοι για έκφραση συνθήκης

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Το «Unless» σημαίνει «εκτός αν», άρα η πρόταση εκφράζει υπονοούμενη άρνηση.
- «I won't go unless...» = «Δεν θα πάω εκτός αν...»
- Τα «Provided (that)» και «providing (that)» είναι συχνά εναλλάξιμα, αλλά το «provided that» εμφανίζεται πιο συχνά σε πιο επίσημα συμφραζόμενα.
4. Συνδετικοί λόγοι για έκφραση αντίθεσης ή παραχώρησης

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Το «But» είναι ο απλούστερος και πιο συχνός για άμεση αντίθεση.
- Το «Though» μπορεί να τοποθετηθεί στο τέλος μιας πρότασης σε πιο ανεπίσημο λόγο
- I’m not sure, though.
- Τα «Despite» και «in spite of» ακολουθούνται από Nomen ή Gerund.
- Despite the rain, they continued playing.
- In spite of having no experience, he got the job.
5. Συνδετικοί λόγοι για έκφραση σκοπού

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Το «To» είναι η πιο απλή μορφή για έκφραση σκοπού, και συνήθως ακολουθείται από ρήμα σε Infinitive.
- Τα «So that» και «in order that» συνήθως εισάγουν πρόταση με υποκείμενο και ρήμα.
- I explained it clearly so that everyone could understand.

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Τα «Such as» και «like» ακολουθούνται συνήθως από συγκεκριμένα παραδείγματα.
- Το «e.g.» είναι λατινική συντομογραφία, χρησιμοποιείται κυρίως σε επίσημα ή ακαδημαϊκά συμφραζόμενα, συχνά εντός παρενθέσεων.
- Τα «For example» και «for instance» χρησιμοποιούνται εναλλάξ για εισαγωγή παραδείγματος.
7. Συνδετικοί λόγοι για σύνοψη ή συμπερασματική πρόταση

Αποχρώσεις / Εξαιρέσεις
- Τα «In conclusion» και «to conclude» έχουν πιο επίσημο ύφος.
- Τα «All in all» και «in short» είναι πιο ανεπίσημα και χρησιμοποιούνται συχνά στον προφορικό λόγο.
Συμπέρασμα
Οι συνδετικοί λόγοι είναι απαραίτητοι για τη δομή των προτάσεων στα αγγλικά. Κάνουν τον λόγο πιο σαφή, πιο ομαλό και πιο λογικό.
