영어의 다양한 과거 형태

영어에는 두 가지 과거 형태가 있습니다:

• Past Simple: Last year, I went to China
• Past Continuous: I was writing when my phone rang

⚠️ 실제로는 present perfect와 past perfect도 과거 형태로 볼 수 있지만, 이들에 대해서는 별도의 강의가 준비되어 있습니다.

Prétérit와 past simple은 동일한 개념이며, 같은 뜻을 가진 두 가지 표현입니다.

Prétérit progressif, prétérit continu, past continuous, prétérit progressif 모두 동일한 의미를 가지는 다양한 표현입니다.

사용되는 맥락

이 두 가지 형태는 서로 다른 맥락에서 사용됩니다.

Past Simple이 사용되는 경우:

• 완전히 끝난 행동: Last year, I went to China
• 과거에 일어난 일련의 행동들: He entered the room, turned on the light, and sat down.
• 과거의 습관: When I was a child, I played outside every day.
• 과거의 사실 또는 일반적인 진실: In the 19th century, people traveled by horse and carriage.

Past Continuous가 사용되는 경우:

• 특정 시점에 진행 중이었던 행동: I was reading a book at 8 PM last night.
• 다른 행동에 의해 중단된 행동: I was cooking when the phone rang.
• 과거에 동시에 일어난 두 행동: While I was studying, my brother was playing video games.
• 이야기의 배경 묘사: The sun was setting, and the birds were singing.
